“We Made History”: Inside the All-Women’s Fight Night That Changed Boxing Forever

NEW YORK CITY — The bright lights of Madison Square Garden have seen some of the greatest bouts in boxing history, but Friday night wasn’t just another night of punches and pay-per-view. It was a seismic cultural moment—the first all-women’s boxing card ever held at MSG, and one of the most stacked, high-stakes nights in the sport’s modern era.

At the heart of it all: a trilogy fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, two of the most decorated fighters to ever lace up gloves. But this night was bigger than one rivalry. It was about an entire generation of women fighters taking their rightful place under the brightest lights, with 17 world titles on the line and a global audience tuning in via Netflix live stream.

Taylor vs. Serrano III: A Legacy Fight

The headline bout was the long-anticipated conclusion of the Taylor-Serrano trilogy—a rivalry that has defined the rise of women’s boxing. Taylor walked away with a majority decision victory, sweeping the series 3–0 and solidifying her status as one of the sport’s all-time greats. In contrast to their past wars, Friday’s fight was a masterclass in technical skill. Taylor outmaneuvered Serrano through footwork, timing, and precision. She took control early and never let go.

The scorecards read: 97–93, 97–93, and 95–95.

But the night didn’t belong to the winner alone.

Serrano’s Speech: “We Made History”

Though tears welled up in her eyes post-fight, Amanda Serrano made it clear she felt the moment’s deeper meaning.

“It was an amazing night for women’s boxing,” she said, as quoted by The Sun.

“We made history,” she added, breaking down in the ring. “It’s an emotional moment for me. This has been my life, my passion, and tonight shows how far we’ve come.”

She went on to thank her fellow fighters, the fans, and everyone behind the scenes:

“I thank promoters, organizers, and fellow female fighters, emphasizing the historic significance of the night.”

Even in defeat, Serrano knew the victory was collective. And the thousands of fans in the Garden—chanting, cheering, and on their feet—knew it too.

The Full Card Was Nothing Short of Epic

The undercard was stacked with talent, titles, and history-making moments:

  • Alycia Baumgardner retained her undisputed super-featherweight crown with a clinical win over Jennifer Miranda.
  • Shadasia Green became the unified IBF and WBO super-middleweight champion after narrowly defeating Savannah Marshall by split decision.
  • Cherneka Johnson claimed undisputed bantamweight gold with a stunning 9th-round TKO.
  • Chantelle Cameron took home the interim WBC super-lightweight title in a dominant performance over Jessica Camara.
  • Ellie Scotney, Ramla Ali, and Tamm Thibeault all added decisive wins to their résumés.
