The boxing world tuned in on Friday, December 19, as Netflix streamed a high profile fight night from the Kaseya Center in Miami that blended championship boxing with pop culture spectacle. While much of the attention centered on the main event, the night was defined early by a women’s title fight that showcased skill, stamina, and substance on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Alycia Baumgardner vs. Leila Beaudoin, A Statement Fight

Alycia Baumgardner entered the ring against Leila Beaudoin with her unified super featherweight titles on the line, competing in a full twelve round championship bout. From the opening bell, Baumgardner controlled the tempo with a sharp jab, clean combinations, and confident ring control, forcing Beaudoin to fight at her pace.

Beaudoin pressed forward throughout the fight, showing toughness and determination, but Baumgardner’s precision began to separate them as the rounds progressed. The turning point came in the seventh round when Baumgardner landed a powerful right hand that sent Beaudoin to the canvas just before the bell. Although Beaudoin rallied in later rounds and showed heart down the stretch, Baumgardner never relinquished control.

After twelve rounds, Baumgardner earned a clear unanimous decision, retaining her titles and cementing the night’s most technically impressive performance.

Online reaction during and after the fight focused heavily on the significance of the bout itself. Fans praised the fighters for competing at the full championship distance and highlighted Baumgardner’s conditioning and composure. Many noted that the fight felt like a reset moment for women’s boxing, one rooted in skill rather than spectacle.

Alycia on setting a new standard for boxing: “I feel amazing after that performance. And yes, there is a standard, and there’s high expectations that I have for myself. The expectations that MVP has for me, when you think of an athlete, when you think of someone who is a competitor, you think of Alycia Bumgardner, and you think about Alycia stepping up to the plate and showcasing what she always talks about and backing it up. And so yes, it is a standard and I think it only gets better. Like he said, the knockout came in that last [third] minute. So I know exactly what that feeling is, and I know exactly how I want to do things moving forward.

Why This Fight Mattered

This was not just another title defense. Baumgardner’s win represented a push toward equal standards in the sport, with a twelve round format that mirrored men’s championship rules. Social media conversation reflected growing support for women fighters competing under the same conditions and receiving the same visibility.

For many viewers, this fight grounded the entire card in legitimacy and reminded audiences that high level boxing does not need hype to be compelling.

The Main Event, Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul

By the time the main event arrived, the energy inside the arena and across social platforms had shifted. Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul brought together two very different boxing worlds, traditional heavyweight pedigree and influencer era celebrity.

Joshua, a former two time heavyweight champion, took control as the fight unfolded. After measured early rounds, he began to overwhelm Paul with power and experience. Paul was knocked down multiple times, showing resilience but struggling to match Joshua’s size and timing.

The fight ended in the sixth round when Joshua landed a sustained barrage that forced the referee to stop the contest, giving Joshua a knockout victory.

Social media exploded immediately following the stoppage. Some fans applauded Paul for stepping into the ring with a legitimate heavyweight and surviving several knockdowns, while others felt the matchup underscored the gap between elite professional fighters and crossover stars. Debate continued well into the night, with reactions ranging from admiration to skepticism.

Anthony Joshua on fighting in the clinch, “In the clinch, he [did] really well. When you’re in survival mode, you’ll always find a way. I was trying to look for certain shots. I actually wanted to let my hands go in the clinch, but he [did] well to tie my hands up. And as you could see, when they were free, I tried to land a few body shots. And yeah, I tried when I could. It was a bit messy, but from a systematical breakdown, the right hand landed, it found its home, and the referee waved it off after. I would’ve loved to have landed some more body shots, but it wasn’t for tonight. Maybe in the future, but we got the job done in the end anyway.

The Takeaway

Netflix’s fight night delivered two very different but equally telling moments for the sport. Alycia Baumgardner’s dominant unanimous decision over Leila Beaudoin showcased championship level boxing and elevated women’s fights on a global platform. Anthony Joshua’s knockout win over Jake Paul delivered the spectacle that drew mass attention.

Together, the fights illustrated what the future of boxing on streaming platforms may look like, a balance of credibility and culture, substance and spectacle. And if this night proved anything, it is that when women’s boxing is given the stage, it rises to the moment.
