For weeks, viewers complained that Season 3 of Euphoria had lost itself. Early episodes felt slow, disconnected, and at times more interested in shock than emotional payoff. Episode 7, however, may be the first time this season where the stakes felt undeniably real. Characters aren’t just spiraling anymore—they’re paying for it.
And that includes Nate.
The biggest moment of the episode is undoubtedly Nate’s death, which has divided fans online. Many viewers weren’t happy to see one of Euphoria’s most infamous characters killed off. But after multiple seasons of violence, manipulation, emotional abuse, and increasingly reckless behavior—not to mention the physical deterioration we’ve watched this season, including the loss of fingers—the question almost becomes: how long was Nate realistically supposed to survive this trajectory?
The issue isn’t necessarily that Nate died. The issue is whether the writing fully sold why he ended up in that situation to begin with.
His final moments are horrifying. Between being trapped in a confined space and the appearance of a snake, Episode 7 leans harder into psychological thriller territory than classic Euphoria. For viewers uncomfortable with claustrophobic scenes or body horror, parts of the episode are genuinely difficult to watch. The tension works—but at times it feels like the show relies on discomfort more than character development.
Still, despite those critiques, Episode 7 is arguably one of the strongest episodes of the season.
Why? Because consequences finally exist.
The person audiences may feel worst for after this episode isn’t Nate or Cassie. It’s Maddy.
Maddy’s storyline has quietly become one of the most tragic and realistic arcs in Euphoria. While other characters continue making destructive choices, Maddy has spent much of Season 3 trying to build stability and move forward. Yet somehow, she ends up losing the most.
After choosing to protect people who repeatedly betrayed or hurt her, Maddy loses her job and finds herself trapped in a new dependency. There’s something painfully believable about that. Many women know what it feels like to become the responsible person in chaotic situations—the one expected to absorb damage created by others.
Ironically, Maddy may now be the most emotionally mature person left in Euphoria.
Her growth has been subtle but significant. She isn’t chasing toxic relationships in the same way. She’s trying to build something. Survive something. Adapt. In a season where many characters feel stuck, Maddy continues evolving.
Then there’s Rue.
At this point, Rue’s storyline feels suspended between redemption and disaster. She continues risking everything—sometimes physically, emotionally, spiritually—with a kind of desperation that makes viewers uneasy. Episode 7 pushes Rue further into themes of fate, survival, and purpose.
And it raises an uncomfortable question:
Is Rue next?
Whether or not Euphoria actually kills her off, the series increasingly feels like it’s moving toward an ending. The pacing has changed. Consequences are permanent now. Earlier seasons often allowed characters to spiral endlessly with temporary fallout. Season 3 seems interested in something darker:
Eventually, spiraling costs something.
Episode 7 isn’t perfect. Some major moments feel underdeveloped. Certain consequences land harder than others. But for the first time this season, Euphoria feels urgent again.
Not because it’s shocking.
Because it’s finally forcing characters to face what they’ve become.
